Painring of pinkish chair for Day 7 - 20 for 20 Art Challenge 2024 (1)

Today is Sunday, January 7, 2024 and it’s Day 7 of the 20 for 20 Art Challenge 2024. The challenge is with Kelly Anne Powers and the How to Paint podcast. And here is my offering for the day!

Guidelines For the Art Challenge 2024

The key to this challenge is to paint 20 pieces in 20 days, utilizing a 20-minute time limit. You can paint anything you wish, and then go back after 20 minutes and work longer if you want.

My Theme For 20 For 20 Art Challenge 2024

I’m painting chairs using only two complementary tubes of acrylic paint – and then blending them with black and white. The substrates are pieces of Arches and Fabriano 300# watercolor paper that is made from old paintings. The surface has strokes of Golden black gesso, and drawings are done with Posca Markers.

Setup for Day 7 of the 20 for 20 Art Challenge 2024

Here is a close-up of the two complementary colors in today’s painting, then mixing in the black and white acrylic paints.

Today’s colors are Liquitex Sap Green Permanent and Blick Naphthol Red Light, then mixed with Utrecht Mars Black and Utrecht Bright White.

Learning Experiences For Today:

I absolutely love Liquitex Sap Green. It is probably the most versatile green I use, and I love the yellow undertones. When I mix it with the Naphthol Red, it really neutralizes the two colors and makes a beautiful grayish green when mixed with white.

Time’s Up – Here’s What 20 Minutes Looks Like

Here’s a closeup of the painting at the 20-minute mark.

I Like It But It’s Not Done (is it ever??@!@)

The background shows through, which I like. However, I feel it distracts from the piece so, therefore, I’m going back in…

In addition, the top portion of the chair is not lined up properly, so I need to adjust it.

And Here’s Where I Ended Up.

In addition, here are some of the colors I was able to mix using today’s paint colors.
