20 For 20 Art Challenge 2024

This art challenge started on January 1, 2024, and ended January 20, 2024. The premise was to make a daily piece of art each day, working quickly for 20 minutes a day. (or thereabouts). Going over that time limit was fine, but the goal was to try and get the piece done in 20 minutes or less.

My theme was primitive, abstract chairs painted with acrylic paints, two complementary colors, plus black and white.

All of these chair paintings were completed in less than an hour and were painted on 5″ x 5″ square pieces of 300# watercolor paper. The Arches and Fabriano paper are from previous paintings I made, and the squares were hand-torn, giving them all deckled edges. I applied black gesso over parts of the old paintings and used Posca markers to sketch the chairs before painting them.

The 100 Day Project – 2024

This will be my fourth time doing this particular challenge, and I’m actually doing a bit of a repeat by doing vessels again. However, this time instead of using neutral colors, I’m sticking with a limited palette using complementary colors, black and white. Below are 25 of the 100 paintings I created for the first 100-day project challenge from 2016.

Vessel paintings by Judy Jacobs drawn and painted with neutral colors

Even though I’ll be painting with a limited palette, some works will have accent colors to add interest.

The challenge began on February 18, 2024, and will end on Memorial Day, May 27th.

These paintings will be done using Canson 140# watercolor paper that has been torn into 6″ x 6″ squares. I’m actually upcycling old paintings so they’ll already be gessoed but will have paint and texture from the original paintings. As I’m writing this, I’m onto Day 8 already, and have to say I’m loving the bonus texture!!

As with the chair challenge, I have not placed any of the finished pieces for sale – yet. Please email me or sign up for the newsletter for purchasing information.
